It is indeed a privilege to address the gathering of ENT Surgeons from India on the soil of Dubai. India is now at forefront of all frontiers in Global Scene and Healthcare is our strong point.
We Otolaryngologists of India have kept pace with the rest of World with recent advances in ENT, and keeping firm foot on Basics knowledge. This conference has all Indian speakers who will share their valuable expertise in context with Indian scenario in scenic Dubai.
Today, Dubai has emerged as a global city and a business hub. Although Dubai's economy was built on the oil industry, currently the emirate's model of business, similar to that of Western countries, drives its economy, with the effect that its main revenues are now from tourism, real estate, and financial services. It is an appropriate spot for holding Professional Updates like this where academics can be combined with a bit of fun and frolic.
Over the years, we have seen Indian Otolaryngologists diversifying into various subspecialties depending upon the need of the hour and their individual interests. Now we have Otologists, Skull Base surgeons, Neuro-otologists, Cochlear implant surgeons ,Phonosurgeons , Rhinologists, Head & Neck surgeons ,Cosmetic surgeons and may so many more over a period of time.
So many Indian Conferences project Foreign faculty as their chief attraction but many a time we realize that an Indian speaker would have done a better job. It is time for reverse flow. The trend has started and is likely to pick up. I urge of ENT surgeons to participate more in overseas conferences.
We must ,at the same time, take care of preventive aspects of Otolaryngology by imparting knowledge to General Physicians and public at large. Deafness & Head/Neck Cancers are key areas for this.
Head & Neck trauma is on the rise, and we must brace our self to deal with it rather than others.
We have many lacunae too. The two that should worry us are –Lack of basic research and lack of good publications. Our Medical colleges are churning out sterotype research on the shoulders of PG students and We have one Journal which too has to catch up with International standards.
Finally I wish all the delegates here a great sojourn overseas and wish we meet more often in such surroundings .
I whole heartedly thank sponsors --------
